Started in 1929 by Kenny Macleod and his bother-in-law Donald Macleod. Kenny's son Willie took on the business in the early 60's and ran it along with his business partner Alex Ross who joined the business in the late 70's until Willie's retirement in 2000.
On his fathers retirement Willie's son Kenneth took on his fathers role within the business and he and Alex continued to run the business together until Alex's retirement in 2013. Since then Kenneth has continued the business.
In 2015 MacLeod and MacLeod opened a second shop at Westview terrace in Stornoway. MacLeod and MacLeod have served the island communities of Lewis and Harris with the finest quality meat products, and is the longest established butcher within Stornoway.
The tight knit team of professional butchers adhere to the strict quality guidelines set by the founders Kenny and Donald MacLeod.
MacLeod and MacLeod have successfully built upon the reputation established by the MacLeod family to become a premier producer of Stornoway Black Pudding throughout Scotland.
since then Kenneth has continued in business and 2015 was joined in the family run business by his eldest son James and more recently in 2021 by his his youngest son Kyle, giving the business a real family feel. In 2015 Macleod & Macleod opened a second shop at Westview Terrace in Stornoway. However in October 2020 the original shop on Church Street closed to the public and all retail business was done from the Westview Terrace shop until in May 2022 Macleod & Macleod opened a new Shop on Westview Terrace replacing the one they were in, allowing the business to look forward to the future and to expand the product's and services available to customers.
In August 2021 Macleod & Macleod received the ultimate accolade for the famous and hugely popular Stornoway Black Pudding when they were awarded the Great Taste 3 Star award and the Nidel Barden Heritage Award for the Black Pudding. Awards that recognised the work and efforts of generations past and present and to the staff that have produced the Black Pudding over many years.
